How to reply to Instagram comments and DMs automatically
Every comment answered, every DM acknowledged, every story tag thanked — without sitting in the inbox all day and without the kind of automation that gets accounts flagged. Here is what Instagram actually allows, what gets people banned, and how to do it from a computer in a way that reads as you.
First, what gets accounts flagged
Instagram does not ban accounts for replying to comments. It bans them for behaving like a script: hundreds of identical messages, replies within a second of the comment, the same text to fifty strangers, messages to people who never wrote first. Every “auto DM” tool that ended up in a one-star review did one of those things on someone’s account.
So the rule for automating replies safely is not “don’t”. It is: reply to people who spoke to you, say something specific to what they said, at a human pace, with a hard limit, and stop the moment Instagram pushes back. A tool that cannot promise all five is a tool you should not sign into.
Setting it up
- Open instagram.com with InstaDesk installed. Open the menu and pick the AI row, then the Memory tab.
- Fill in About you: who you are, what the account is for, how you talk, and what you never say. The replies are written from this and from your own past captions, so five honest sentences here is what makes them sound like you.
- Add the questions you get asked — price, shipping, hours, how to book — with your exact answers. When someone asks one of those, the reply uses your words, not the model’s guess.
- Switch to the Autopilot tab, read the risk notice, and tick it. Nothing runs until you have.
- Turn on Reply to comments on my posts and Reply to my DMs. Leave both on Draft first.
- Press Check now. It reads your latest posts, their comments and your inbox, and writes a draft for everything that is waiting on you.
What a pass actually does
Every thirty minutes while Instagram is open, Autopilot reads your recent posts, the new comments on them, and the one-to-one conversations where the other person spoke last. It skips your own comments, comments that are only emoji, anything with a link, group chats, and message requests from strangers (those are shown to you, never answered). For what is left it writes one reply each, in your voice, and puts them in a list with a Send and a Skip button under every one.
The caps are fixed in the code and cannot be raised from any setting: at most four comment replies an hour and twenty a day, three DMs an hour and twelve a day, with more than a minute between each. If Instagram answers any request with a rate limit or a challenge, every routine pauses for a day and the log says so.
Story tags, new followers, and “comment LINK”
Three smaller routines sit under the same switch. Thank people who tag you in a story writes a short thank-you when someone puts your account in their story, once per tag. Welcome new followers sends a hello to people who followed after you switched it on, never to anyone already following. Comment a word, get a DM is the “comment LINK and I’ll send it” pattern: you set the word and the message, and the person who comments it gets exactly that message, with no model involved.
Sending automatically
After a week of drafts you will know whether they sound like you. If they do, switch a routine to Send automatically. The same caps apply, the same skips apply, and every sent reply is written to the Activity log with the post or conversation it went to. Requests from strangers and anything that looks like a pitch or a scam still wait for you, whatever the switch says.
Common questions
Does this risk my account?
Less than doing it by hand at 2am does, honestly, because the pace and the limits are enforced rather than intended. The risk that remains is a wrong reply in your name, which is why draft-first is the default. Read the notice before you tick it; it says the same thing without the softening.
Where does my data go?
The record Autopilot reads from lives on your computer. When it writes a reply, the comment or message and a short summary of your account go to InstaDesk’s model provider to produce the text, and nothing is kept there. Your login never leaves your browser; the extension uses the Instagram session you are already signed into.
Can it answer in other languages?
It answers in the language the person wrote in, and matches their tone. Your About you notes can be in any language too.
